Abstract
Percutaneous vertebroplasty is a treatment modality for osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture. However, cement leakage in the spinal canal can cause severe complications. We report a case of 74-year-old female patient who diagnosed with lumbosacral polyradiculopathy caused by cement leakage after percutaneous vertebroplasty. After a year of comprehensive rehabilitation therapy, she was able to sit up independently and walk with assistive devices for 50 meters. Manual muscle testing revealed, Medical Research Council[MRC] score was 3 in left hip flexor, 0-2 in other left lower extremity muscles. Despite functional recovery, follow up electrodiagnostic studies showed little improvement in distal latencies of compound muscle action potentials, recruitment patterns of some of involved muscles with polyphasic motor unit action potentials. Above results revealed that thermal injury would be associated with polyradiculopathy.
